Attendance…….
Daily attendance is expected unless your child is running a fever or is actively ill. They need to be without a fever for 24 hours before returning to school. When your child returns to school, a written note from a parent or guardian is required. Tardiness…… School starts at 9:15am. Arrival after this time is considered tardy. When your child is tardy you will need to walk your child in and get a tardy slip from the office in order to enter class. Going home… Please be sure to inform me of the way your child will be going home each day (bus, car rider, walker, etc.). I will have a list and your child will be sent home that way. If for any reason this changes, please send in a note stating the new way home. We are required to send your child home their original way if a written notice of the change has not been presented to the teacher. Discipline… Behavior expectations, class rules, and consequences are enforced throughout the school. Be assured that behavior expectations are age appropriate. Students are counseled as to appropriate ways to behave and rewarded for good behavior. They are encouraged to “make a fresh start” each day. The classroom rules are...
Consequences… We use the “How am I doing today?” chart. Each student starts out on the color green every day. 1st rule broken: Verbal warning 2nd rule broken: Flip to yellow – Consequence – taking a break in a quiet area 3rd rule broken: Flip to red – Action taken – taking a 10 minute break in another class 4th rule broken: Office referral, parent contact Rewards… Rewards are given for good behavior. Friday’s are treasure box day. If your child is on green all week, they get to pick a prize from the treasure box. If your child has only 1 yellow and the rest of the week they have green, they get a sticker. Treasure box item donations would be greatly appreciated. Take-Home Folder… Your child has a Take-Home Folder. This folder will go home and come back to school every single day. Inside this folder, you will find a stapled calendar. Everyday, a color will be colored, according to your child’s behavior, in the calendar. (See Consequences above) This is how you will know what color your child was on each day. Please be sure to read and initial this calendar each day. Please be sure to clean out this folder every night and return anything that needs to be returned to school. Homework.. Assigned homework in Kindergarten this year is a parent assisted activity. Each week your child will receive a homework packet. There are 5 activities that need to be completed and all directions for homework will be listed on the homework cover sheet. Reading for 15-20 minutes is included as a part of daily homework. Please read to or with your child each night and sign the reading log that will be located in their reading bags. Please return the homework and reading bag with log every Friday. Missed homework and reading will be noted and reflected in student evaluations. Please start this healthy habit of doing homework daily now! Breakfast and Lunch… Breakfast is served at school daily. If your child needs to eat breakfast, they need to be at school by 8:45 am to be in the cafeteria line. Each student has their own lunch number. Your child can either bring or buy lunch. Our lunch time this year is 1:25- 1:50. If you would like to eat lunch with your child, you first have to go to the office to sign in and receive a visitor’s pass then you may come to the cafeteria. There will be tables designated for parents and guardians. Uniforms… The students are required to wear a white, navy, or light blue shirt and navy blue or khaki bottoms every day, even Fridays. Jeans are not acceptable. If a student is not in uniform, they will be sent to the office in the morning and asked to change. They will then have to report back to the office at the end of the day to change back into their own clothes. This can be very disruptive during the school day, so please make every effort to abide by this rule. |
